Le 19 Septembre prochain est proclamé le 'Frank Zappa Day' par la municipalité de Baltimore et s'accompagne du dévoilement d'un buste ainsi que d'un concert gratuit

BALTIMORE, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Les détails viennent de tomber concernant les événements qui vont se dérouler les 18 et 19 septembre prochains en association avec le dévoilement de la statue en hommage au légendaire musicien, compositeur et icône sociale américaine. Dans le cadre de la célébration, le bureau du maire va émettre une proclamation en faveur du 19 Septembre pour qu'il devienne ainsi le "Frank Zappa Day". Une date pas tout à fait innocente puisqu'il s'agit du jour anniversaire de la déposition de Frank Zappa, en 1985, en faveur de la liberté d'expression pour les "recording artists" devant le sénat, à la suite des actions menées par le PMRC en vue de censurer les labels de disques. En outre, le tronçon de l'avenue de l'Est entre les rues Conkling et Eaton dans Highlandtown sera baptisé "Frank Zappa Way" avec une cérémonle d'érection de plaque de rue. La plupart des événements, y compris le dévoilement et le concert gratuit en plein air, aura lieu le long de ce tronçon de l'Est Avenue, au cœur des arts de la Highlandtown et de Entertainment District.
Tout frais revenu d'une tournée mondiale, le fils de Frank Zappa, Dweezil et son groupe "Zappa Plays Zappa" sera la vedette du concert du dimanche après-midi.
Les manifestations sont produites par Clearpath Entertainment en collaboration avec la famille Zappa, la Sud-Est Corporation de développement communautaire, l'Enoch Pratt Free Library et l'Alliance Creative de Patterson, en coordination avec Le Bureau de la Promotion des Arts et de la cérémonie d'inauguration de Baltimore.

Although the dedication ceremony and the concert are FREE to the public, special VIP passes for the concert are available at www.MissionTix.com (keyword Zappa), providing access to a reserved viewing enclosure close to the concert stage, talent meet-and-greet, and other fan incentives.
Transportation and Parking:
All are encouraged to use public transportation to the venue on Sunday. There is Free street parking available throughout the neighborhood on Sunday as well as a private lot that will be made available for free parking on the SE corner of O'Donnell and Conkling Streets. Use of MTA and Downtown Circulator buses is strongly encouraged.

Saulius Paukstys, longtime president of a Zappa fan club, pitched the Zappa bust Wednesday to Baltimore’s public art commission, and the commissioners, clearly charmed by his dogged efforts, voted unanimously to accept the gift.
